Painting and Decorating Services in Peterlee
Peterlee’s post-war new town housing is a different beast from Victorian stock — cavity walls, rendered and pebble-dashed exteriors, plasterboard interiors. We work across all property types in SR8, from single rooms to full house repaints.
Interior Decorating
Peterlee’s 1950s and 1960s semis typically have plasterboard or sand-cement render rather than lime plaster, which takes standard emulsion well.
But cracks and failing previous coats need addressing before painting — we prepare every surface properly before any paint goes on.
Our interior painting service covers living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, kitchens, and staircases — filling, sanding, priming, and masking all included as standard.
Exterior Painting
Peterlee’s housing was built between the late 1940s and early 1970s with a mix of exterior finishes. Rendered and pebble-dashed facades — common on the Sunny Blunts estate and across Howletch Lane — require a stabiliser coat before any top coat goes on. The same applies to similar housing stock in Murton, just north of Peterlee.
Skipping that step causes premature flaking. For brick-faced properties on Edenhill Road and Yoden Way, we use vapour-permeable masonry paint suited to concrete-block construction.
See our full exterior painting service for what’s included — fascias, soffits, and window frames finished in durable microporous wood paint.

House Painting
Whether it’s a single room refresh, a full interior repaint, or a complete exterior, we handle the whole job.
Our house painting service in Peterlee suits homeowners refreshing before sale, after purchase, or simply updating a property that hasn’t been painted in several years.
One quote, one contractor, interior and exterior sequenced so nothing overlaps and you’re not living on a building site.
Commercial Painting
Peterlee has a range of local shops, service businesses, and commercial premises across Yoden Way and the town centre that need periodic maintenance painting.
Our commercial painting service covers shopfronts, common areas, stairwells, and office spaces in both occupied and unoccupied properties.
Scheduling arranged to minimise disruption to trading hours — call 0191 743 6008 to discuss your requirements.
All services quoted in writing after a free site visit. We assess the property first and tell you exactly what’s involved before any work is agreed.

Peterlee Properties and What They Need
Peterlee was designated a new town in 1948 to re-house mining communities from the surrounding East Durham coalfield. Understanding the local housing stock is the difference between a paint job that lasts and one that fails within a few years.
Post-War New Town Housing
Most of the town’s housing was complete by the early 1970s — meaning no Victorian terraces, no lime plaster, no solid 9-inch brick walls.
What you find instead: cavity wall construction (concrete block or brick), often with rendered or pebble-dashed exteriors on the semis and terraces across SR8 1, SR8 2, and SR8 5.
These properties dry out faster than solid brick, but poor previous paintwork and chalking masonry are the main issues to address before repainting.
Sunny Blunts Estate
The south-west area of Peterlee was designed under Victor Pasmore and features distinctive low-rise housing arranged around the Apollo Pavilion and its ornamental lake.
The housing on Sunny Blunts is predominantly rendered or pebble-dashed. Chalking or loose render needs a stabilising primer applied first — skipping that step causes the new coat to fail within a season.
We assess render condition during the quote visit and factor in any stabiliser treatment upfront, with no surprise additions when we arrive.
Edenhill Road, Howletch Lane and Newer Developments
Edenhill Road and Eden Hill on the eastern side of town are well-established residential areas with 1960s semis and bungalows — straightforward concrete block or brick construction. We also cover nearby decorators in Easington, just a few minutes east toward the coast.
The Howletch Lane area includes a mix of semis and detached properties from the same era. The Mickle Hill development on the north side of town is newer (2000s onward), with smooth render and UPVC joinery that requires a dedicated adhesion primer on window frames before paint will bond correctly.

How We Work

Step 1: Free Quote
We visit your Peterlee property and assess surfaces inside and out.
You get a clear written price — no vague estimates, no surprises. Prep requirements are identified and included upfront.
Step 2: Preparation
The bulk of the work happens before any paint goes on.
Filling, sanding, priming, stabilising render where needed, and protecting your floors, furniture, and fittings throughout the job.
Step 3: Decoration
Paint applied methodically with proper drying time between coats.
We don’t rush jobs to fit the next booking — this matters most on render that needs time to cure between stabiliser and finish coats.
Step 4: Final Check
We inspect all finished surfaces before packing up. Any touch-ups handled on site.
If anything needs attention after we leave, call us and we’ll come back and sort it — no questions asked.

Pricing for Peterlee Properties
Every property is different — prices below are estimates only. Call 0191 743 6008 for a precise quote after a free site visit.
Single Room Interior
£250–£550 depending on size, prep required, and number of coats.
Post-war interiors with failing previous paintwork or cracked plasterboard may need more preparation, identified and costed at the quote stage.
Full Interior (3-bed Semi)
£1,300–£2,600+ depending on condition and specification.
Properties that haven’t been decorated in 10+ years typically need more preparation time, which is factored into the quote upfront — not added later.
Exterior Repaint (Rendered or Pebble-Dash Semi)
£700–£1,900+ depending on render condition and access.
Chalking or loose render on Sunny Blunts and Howletch Lane properties needs stabiliser treatment before the finish coat — assessed and quoted upfront.
Exterior Repaint (Brick-Faced Semi)
£600–£1,600+ depending on prep and access.
Brick-faced properties on Edenhill Road and Yoden Way take vapour-permeable masonry paint — no stabiliser required unless the brick is heavily contaminated from previous coatings.
