Peterlee Properties and What They Need

Peterlee was designated a new town in 1948 to re-house mining communities from the surrounding East Durham coalfield. Understanding the local housing stock is the difference between a paint job that lasts and one that fails within a few years.

Post-War New Town Housing

Most of the town’s housing was complete by the early 1970s — meaning no Victorian terraces, no lime plaster, no solid 9-inch brick walls.

What you find instead: cavity wall construction (concrete block or brick), often with rendered or pebble-dashed exteriors on the semis and terraces across SR8 1, SR8 2, and SR8 5.
