Master Bedroom Painting
Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Ashbrooke and Fulwell have principal bedrooms with ceilings 10–11 feet high, deep skirting boards, picture rails, and cornicing. These rooms demand more time than a standard modern bedroom.
High ceilings require extension ladders or working platforms for safe access. Four-panel doors have deep moulding profiles that need patient multi-coat work. We assess the room’s features during the quote visit and provide realistic timelines.
Children’s Room Painting
Children’s bedrooms in Doxford Park and Washington homes are typically simpler — smooth plasterboard, one or two feature walls, bright colours, and minimal trim. We use eggshell or scuff-resistant finishes on walls that take contact.
Colour selection is discussed during the quote. We bring samples and assess how colours sit in your room’s actual lighting — north and south-facing rooms look very different in the same colour.
Feature Walls and Accent Colours
One wall in a different colour — behind a bed or at the room’s focal point — creates visual interest without the complexity of painting the entire room in a bold shade. Feature walls work particularly well in rooms with alcoves or chimney breasts.
Dark colours require three coats for even coverage rather than two. See our feature wall painting page for full details.
Ceiling and Cornice Painting
Bedroom ceilings accumulate dust and sometimes develop watermarks or crazing from age. We fill crazing with flexible filler, treat any staining with stain-blocking primer, then apply two coats of ceiling paint.
Cornicing is painted carefully to avoid damaging the moulding — corners and run-outs are done by hand, not masked. See our ceiling painting page for more on our ceiling approach.

How We Paint Your Bedroom
1. Site Assessment
We visit and check room size, ceiling height, wall condition, and woodwork extent. You discuss colours and finish preferences.
2. Furniture and Protection
Furniture is moved to the room’s centre and covered with dustsheets. Floors are protected. Electrics are covered or worked around.
3. Ceiling and Walls
Ceiling is painted first to prevent drips onto walls. Two coats with proper drying time between, then walls are cut in carefully around trim.
4. Woodwork
Doors, skirting, and picture rail are painted last. Deglossing is done before primer application, followed by two coats of satinwood or eggshell.
5. Inspection and Touch-Up
Every surface is inspected for missed spots, drips, or inconsistent coverage. Touch-ups are completed before pack-up and a full walkthrough with you.
Bedroom Painting Costs in Sunderland
Prices below are estimates only. Every bedroom is different. Call 0191 743 6008 for a precise quote.

What Drives the Price
Three factors determine the final cost: ceiling height and access, woodwork complexity, and colour choice. Standard ceilings (8ft) are quicker than high Victorian ceilings (10–11ft) that require platforms.
A simple bedroom with basic trim costs less than a principal bedroom with picture rail, cornice, and four-panel door. Dark colours and feature walls need three coats rather than two.
Modern Bedroom (Doxford Park or Washington)
Approximately 12m², smooth plasterboard, two walls in colour, ceiling and trim. Typically £450–700. Includes mist coat on repaired areas, two finish coats, and trim in white.
Period Principal Bedroom (Ashbrooke Victorian Terrace)
Approximately 16m², 10.5ft ceiling, picture rail, four-panel door, deep skirting, lime plaster. Typically £650–950. Full prep for lime plaster, appropriate primer, two coats walls and ceiling, door and trim detail work.
Feature Wall Bedroom
Approximately 14m², single dark accent wall, ceiling, basic trim. Typically £550–800. Feature wall in dark colour at three coats, remaining walls in neutral at two coats, ceiling and trim.
