New plasterboard is highly absorbent. The paper surface pulls moisture and paint binder from topcoats, leaving a thin, weak film. Standard emulsion applied directly causes uneven coverage, poor adhesion, and peeling within weeks.

Foxglove Decor apply a mist coat as standard on every plasterboard surface. On large areas or multiple rooms, this stage takes a few hours and is non-negotiable if you want paint that lasts.

Some properties have plasterboard installed, then pipework and electrics added, creating service gaps and minor damage before decoration. We assess surfaces after second fix is complete, patch any damage, sand smooth, apply mist coat, and finish.

Mixed-substrate rooms (part plasterboard, part lime plaster or skim) get the same careful assessment. Different surfaces need different primers.

Before painting can start, surfaces must be sound. We fill minor cracks and holes with flexible wall filler, sand smooth, and dust down thoroughly.
